    Ok I asked this on a super8 forum, but it looked like no one in that forum were fans of my favorite band. Well the question deals with this band's music videos or rather one of them. In the video for the song Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad by Def Leppard I've noticed some very grainy footage in some parts. I keep thinking Wayne Isham (the director) may have used super8 or 16mm black and white film to pull this off. It's not a great question but it'd be kinda nice if someone answered it, but then again I haven't run into a filmmaker who's a Def Leppard fan.

    I have not seen the video you mention.
    However there are countless ways to create a gritty or grainy effect.
    Many editing programs have a filter that actually say static or flicker.
    Outside of the digital editing domain;
    You can create a dummy tape and actually wrinkle or damage the tape then play it back VHS into your editing softeware or onto another VHS unit.
    Do not damage the tape badly or it could clog your VHS.

    OK.
    I really do not understand where this is going.
    A little cost vs. available editing power for that time frame lookie should add spice to the conversation.
    Hint: Who Framed Roger Rabbit came out in 1988 or so
